Introduction of College
Donghua University is one of the leading universities in China directly under the Ministry of Education which is funded and managed by both the Ministry of Education and the government of Shanghai municipality. It is one of key universities of “project 211”. The College of Information Science and Technology is composed of the Departments of Automation Electric Engineering, and Electronics Communication Engineering, Electrical Electronic Practicing Center, Specialty Laboratory, National Research Center of Digital Textile Fashion Technical Engineering, Network Intelligent Research Center, and the Institute of Automation etc. In the past decades, the college has achieved remarkable accomplishments in discipline construction, talent cultivation, and scientific researches etc. All of these make it one of the leading colleges of the university. Authorized by the Ministry of Education, the college now has 1 preliminary-level postdoctoral workstation (i.e. Cybernetics Control Engineering), 2 Ph.D. programs (i.e. Cybernetics Control Engineering, Pattern Recognition Intelligent System), 7 M.S. programs (i.e. Cybernetics Control Engineering, Pattern Recognition Intelligent System, Power Electronics Power Transmission, Detection Technology Automatic Device, Communications Information Systems, Signal Information Processing, System Engineering), 2 Engineering-oriented M.E. programs ( Control Engineering and Electronics Communication Engineering), and 4 bachelor programs (Automation Electric Engineering, Automation, Communication Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering). At present, the college has more than 2,000 full-time enrollment students leading to B.S., M.S. and Ph.D.
Faculties
The college has a staff of 120, among whom there are 2 specially appointed professors, 16 doctoral tutors, 25 professors, 41associate professors and more than 50 lecturers and professionals. Among them, there are 8 post-doctors, 25 doctorate holders, and 8 on-job doctors. Tow of them were given the title of “National-Rank Specialists with Outstanding Contributions”, one with the honor of “Model Worker” in national educational field, one the “National Excellent Teacher”, one the “ Excellent Teacher of Shanghai Educational Association”, five winners of “Shanghai Teaching Gardeners Prize”, two the “Shanghai Excellent Young Teachers”, Two the “Shanghai Dawn-light Scholars”, two the “Shanghai Enlightenment Star”, one the “Shanghai Excellent Communist Party member”, one the “Excellent Communist Party member of Shanghai Educational Association”, Two the “Shanghai Excellent Professionals”. Six of the faculty was elected as directors or deputy directors of national and Shanghai specialty commissions.
Scientific Research and Achievements
In recent years, the college has undertaken 1 “key projects finance-supported by National Natural Science Foundation”, more than 10 projects of “National Natural Science Foundation”, 5 projects of “Doctor Conferring Points Foundation”, 4 key projects finance-supported by Ministry of Education, 3 projects of “Backbone Young Teacher Foundation of Ministry of education”, 1 Europe Union international cooperation project, 1 Sino-France international cooperation project, 1 key research project of Shanghai Science and Technology Committee, 2 projects of “Shanghai Dawn-Light Program”, 1 project of “Shanghai Scientific Enlightenment Star Program”, as well as over one hundred enterprise-funded research projects. The total scientific research fund has amounted to RMB500 million yuan per year. The college is also the holder of about 20 National Invention patents. Of the accomplished projects, two have won Science-Technology Innovation Prizes of the Ministry of Education, eight Science-Technology Innovation Prizes of the Textile Ministry, nine Shanghai Science-Technology Innovation Prizes, and one the national key innovative product prize. In recent years, over 700 scientific research papers and ten books have been published in the leading academic journals both at home and abroad. The college hosts one center and four bases, i.e. one National Research Center of Digital Textile Fashion Technical Engineering, one Network-based System Modeling Simulation basis, one Detection Cybernetics Research basis, one Computer Integrated network Multimedia Communication Research basis, and one Pattern Recognition Intelligent System Research basis.
Talent Cultivation
The college not only devoted to laying sound theory foundation in talent cultivation, but also to developing the sense and the capability of innovation in all kinds teaching activities. All the efforts have resulted in great achievements. In the past three years, our students have won a lot of awards in various levels contests, such as Mathematics Modeling Contest both Internationally and Nationally, National Undergraduate Electronic Circuit Design Contest, National Embedded Electronic System Design Contest, ACM Programming Contest. Our students have exhibited excellent expertise in the high level competitions and achieved a lot of awards and honors, including one international special prize, two international first prizes, three the second prizes, five national first prizes, more than ten the second prizes, the second prize in the Philippines, the sixth prize in Japan, and in Singapore, more than thirty the first, the second, and the third prizes in Shanghai area, Asia. What’s more, our students, acting as national delegation, took part in global final competition, and attained marvelous achievements. In the past three years, the rate of the college students finding their job opportunities upon their graduation is up to ninety-eight percent, among which the rate is as high as one hundred percent in graduates from Shanghai area., and more than eighty-five percent graduates, originally coming from other provinces of China, found their job or further studying opportunities in Shanghai.
International Cooperation
In recent years, the college has established long-term academic exchange with more than 10 world renowned universities and research institutes in USA, Japan, British, and Hongkong, China. By means of inter-sending exchange scholar, co-developing doctor cultivation, cooperation in scientific research, founding studio, so as to strengthen international cooperation and make the college better known in the world. In addition, the college also devoted to establish good relationship with some world famous companies such as USA ORACLE, MICROSOFT, SYBASE, JAPAN National, Nitta, AUSTRIA B R. The united-founding laboratories and training center greatly improve the facilities of studying, resulting in better teaching quality, and enlarging social influence of the college.
